A meeting was held on Sunday morning at the Smart City office in Indore, chaired by Collector Shivam Verma, regarding the waterborne illness incident in the Bhagirathpura area of Indore. In the meeting, Collector received information about the work being done by various departments in the Bhagirathpura area.
He said that a team of expert doctors from Kolkata, Delhi, and Bhopal is working in the Bhagirathpura area. Special attention is being given to water testing. All borewells in the area will be chlorinated. Additionally, in the meeting, Collector Verma stated that no cases of GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome) have been found in the city.
The team from Kolkata, Delhi, and Bhopal, along with the Municipal Corporation, Health Department, and other concerned departments, are conducting water testing in the Bhagirathpura area. Areas where contaminated water is found will be identified and appropriate measures will be taken.
Residents of the area are also being made aware and encouraged to cooperate in the chlorination of their borewells and water tanks. For this purpose, the entire Bhagirathpura area has been divided into more than 30 beats. Chlorination work will be carried out in each beat with the cooperation of employees and citizens. The entire area is being informed about this process.
Team of Scientists and Doctors from Kolkata to Investigate Contaminated Water
Collector Shivam Verma said that Dr. Pramit Ghosh and Dr. Gautam Chowdhury, scientists from Kolkata, will collect samples of the contaminated water and conduct scientific tests. For this purpose, the team will collect random water samples from the Bhagirathpura area. The team will work in coordination with the Municipal Corporation, Public Health Engineering Department, and the Health Department. The objective is to provide clean drinking water to the citizens and to monitor all aspects of the incident to determine the cause.
Collector Shivqam Verma said that a team of state surveillance and expert doctors is conducting micro-level monitoring in the Bhagirathpura area. Local citizens are also being sensitized at the community level.
Collector said that clean drinking water is being distributed through tankers in the Bhagirathpura area. Citizens are being advised to boil the water before drinking it. Chlorine (liquid) is also being provided to ensure water purity.
Collector said that those affected by the contaminated drinking water are receiving better treatment in various hospitals. They are being provided with necessary medicines, injections, etc. He said that random water samples are being collected from areas of the city where complaints of contaminated water have been received. A door-to-door survey is also being conducted by employees of the Health Department, Municipal Corporation, Public Health Engineering Department, and other departments.
Water tanks in the basements of houses will be cleaned and chlorinated. Only after this will the residents of the area be allowed to use the borewell water.
