MP Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has stated that the policy on the Uniform Civil Code will be formulated based on public suggestions received. He emphasised that meaningful public participation is essential for effective policy-making. To encourage citizens to share their views in large numbers, awareness campaigns should be conducted across all districts of the state.
The Chief Minister directed that citizens be encouraged to submit their opinions not only in urban areas but also at the village level. Activities should be organised in schools and colleges, while discussion sessions should be held with social and business organisations, Bar Councils and other stakeholder groups to encourage public participation. Government officers and employees should also submit their suggestions regarding the Uniform Civil Code. At the village level, employment assistants, Panchayat Secretaries and other grassroots functionaries should promote discussions on the subject. Special Gram Sabha meetings may also be organised for this purpose.
CM Dr. Mohan Yadav issued these directions during a video conference with District Collectors on the Uniform Civil Code Awareness Campaign on Saturday. Chief Secretary Shri Anurag Jain, Additional Chief Secretaries Shri Neeraj Mandloi, Shri Anupam Rajan and Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla were present at the meeting held at Samatva Bhavan in the Chief Minister’s Residence.
Suggestions Can Be Submitted Through Dedicated Website; Process Kept Simple
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav informed that suggestions on the Uniform Civil Code are being invited until June 22. For this purpose, a dedicated website has been launched: ucc.mp.gov.in . He said the process for submitting suggestions on the portal is simple and user-friendly. Citizens are required to provide basic details such as name, gender, religion, division, district, address and mobile number. They are then required to respond to 12 questions with ‘Yes’ or ‘No’. The submission is completed after mobile OTP verification. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav also reviewed the activities being carried out at the district level to encourage public participation in the consultation process.
Need to Expand Public Awareness
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasised the need to involve public representatives in raising awareness about the objectives and consultation process related to the Uniform Civil Code. He also directed officials to enhance awareness through Self-Help Groups (SHGs), women’s groups, and social organisations.
There is a growing need to develop a comprehensive legal framework through a holistic review of the various provisions governing marriage, divorce, maintenance, inheritance and other personal and family law matters under different legal systems. To achieve this objective, the State Government has constituted a high-level committee to undertake a detailed study of the legal, social and administrative aspects of the subject and submit recommendations regarding the Uniform Civil Code.
The committee is visiting districts across the state and encouraging citizens to submit their suggestions and views on the proposed framework.
