Bhopal: During an awareness program organized on the occasion of World Environment Day-2026, National Award-winning science communicator Sarika Gharu urged people to promote the use of green energy and to make environmental conservation an integral part of their lifestyle.
Speaking at the event—organized under the guidance of Sudhir Kumar Kochhar, Executive Director of the Environmental Planning and Coordination Organization (EPCO)—Mrs. Gharu stated that the Earth does not engage in debates or compromises; rather, it sends signals. Melting glaciers, rising temperatures, and a changing environment are such signals that require serious attention and understanding. She warned that if these signals are ignored, a severe environmental crisis could emerge in the future.
Sarika emphasized that World Environment Day should not be confined merely to slogans and ceremonial events; instead, every individual should initiate environmental conservation efforts within their own families and daily lives.
Highlighting this year’s theme—’Climate Action: Mission LiFE’—during the program, she underscored the necessity of conserving water sources, protecting biodiversity, and adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle. She called upon students and women to actively participate in environmental conservation initiatives.
While educating children about the significance of solar energy, Mrs. Gharu also demonstrated a simple method for constructing low-cost solar cookers. She asserted that maximizing the utilization of clean energy sources, such as solar power, is essential for achieving green development goals.
Furthermore, identifying tree plantation as a crucial means of environmental conservation, she advised that saplings should be planted during appropriate seasons and in secure environments to ensure their survival and protection. She urged that tree plantation should be undertaken not merely to set records or fulfill formalities, but with the genuine objective of securing the future.
