Guna district was honored with the country’s highest innovation award, the “Skoch Award 2025,” at the “Skoch Summit 2025” held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on Saturday. The award was presented to the Horticulture Department of Guna district’s innovative project, “Guna – Steps Towards the City of Roses: Flower Revolution through Polyhouses.”
The award was jointly received by Guna District Collector, Kishore Kanyal, and Deputy Director of Horticulture, K.P.S. Kirar. In India, the Skoch Award is considered a benchmark of national excellence. It is awarded only to projects that meet the highest standards of innovation, transparency, integrity, and excellent implementation.
Guna is known as the “City of Roses” for its rose cultivation, particularly Dutch roses cultivated through polyhouses. This initiative has increased economic benefits for local farmers and has brought Guna flowers recognition in national and international markets, including Dubai and London.
Area under polyhouse roses in Guna will be expanded to 500 acres
Guna Collector, Kishore Kanyal, said, “This achievement, which has brought national recognition to Guna district, has strengthened our resolve. In the next five years, the area under polyhouse roses in Guna will be expanded to 500 acres.” Commissioner and Director of Horticulture, Madhya Pradesh, Mrs. Preeti Maithil, also heartily congratulated the Guna district team on this achievement.
The event was held in the presence of Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and External Affairs, L Murugan. Chairman of the Skoch Group, Sameer Kochhar presented the awards. L. Murugan, released Kochhar’s book, “Modinomics: A Journey to Inclusive Development.”
Horticulture and Food Processing Minister, Narayan Singh Kushwaha, congratulated the district’s rose farmers, the District Collector, Horticulture Department officials, and the district administration on the country’s prestigious Scotch Award for rose cultivation in Guna district. He said that Guna district received the Sloch Award as a result of everyone’s coordinated efforts. He stated that the production of roses and other flowers will be encouraged in other districts of the state as well.
