AIIMS Bhopal’s senior Nursing Officer Pooja Heroliya from the Eye Bank Unit of the Department of Ophthalmology represented the institute and achieved a remarkable distinction at the 15th National Conference on Cornea and Eye Banking organized by the Eye Bank Association of India (EBAI) in Nagpur.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Prof. (Dr.) Madhabananda Kar and the guidance of Head of Department Prof. (Dr.) Bhavana Sharma, Ms Heroliya presented a research paper titled “Can we have enough corneal donors? What more needs to be done.” Her presentation was highly appreciated and awarded by the Central Organizing Committee.
Prof. (Dr.) Bhavana Sharma said that the Ophthalmology Department of AIIMS Bhopal is committed to tissue transplantation and eye donation. She described Pooja Heroliya’s contribution as an inspiration for nursing staff and appealed to all nursing personnel and doctors to actively participate in research and innovation.
Dr. Bhavana added that only through consistent effort and dedication can the department’s reputation be further elevated at the national level. This achievement is not only a matter of pride for AIIMS Bhopal but also carries an important message for the general public. Corneal donation (eye donation) can restore the vision of those suffering from blindness. The research highlights the urgent need for greater awareness and community participation, so that no one remains in the darkness of blindness.
