The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a new direction to Mrs. Lovely Gupta, a resident of village Dobra Jagir of Phanda development block of Bhopal district, who has achieved remarkable success in the field of ornamental fisheries (Shobhaiman fish farming).
Mrs. Lovely Gupta established a special unit under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana in the year 2024-25 at a total cost of Rs 25 lakh, in which she also received a 60 percent grant of Rs 15 lakh. She started breeding and production of fish by taking land on a registered lease of 10 years.
Her unit is the first fully developed ornamental fish farm in Bhopal district, which not only fulfills the demand of the local market, but has also made it possible to supply the requirements of other districts locally. More than 80 glass aquariums have been installed in her unit, in which species like guppy, goldfish, molly, swordtail, koi carp, zebra are being bred scientifically.
The shed has been constructed in such a way that natural light is available during the day and modern air blower and water testing arrangements have been ensured to supply oxygen in the aquarium.
This farm run by Mrs. Gupta has not only become a source of income but has also provided employment to 3-4 people. The estimated income of Rs 6-7 lakh in the first year has further boosted her confidence. Now she is also working towards breeding more valuable species like Oscar, Red Parrot and Cichlids locally.
This achievement of Mrs. Lovely Gupta is an inspiring example of women entrepreneurship and self-reliance. She says – “I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav Ji, whose plans and guidance gave me the opportunity to become self-reliant.”
