A historic milestone was achieved today in the expansion of rail connectivity in the Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh. In the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr. Mohan Yadav, Satna-Devendranagar and Rewa-Churhat rail sections were inaugurated. On this occasion, the new Devendranagar-Churhat passenger train service was also flagged off. Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw joined from New Delhi in the programme through video conferencing.
CM Dr. Yadav described the new rail links as a major milestone for Vindhya and Bundelkhand, fulfilling a long-standing demand for better connectivity. He said railway projects worth around Rs 1.5 lakh crore were underway in Madhya Pradesh under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
The Chief Minister said improved connectivity would help farmers transport produce to bigger markets, boost trade and logistics, and provide better travel options for students and other passengers. The links would improve access to Panna, Rewa, Sidhi, Singrauli and Satna and strengthen connectivity between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. He also announced that the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga–Khandwa rail line would be inaugurated soon.
A new lifeline for the region: Ashwini Vaishnaw called the project a new lifeline for the region, saying it would promote industrial activity, create opportunities for industrial corridors and improve access to healthcare and other essential services. He said railway infrastructure was being upgraded at stations across the state, including Khajuraho and Gwalior. More than 100 long- and short-distance train services, including MEMU trains, are planned in the coming years.
The Union Minister added that a grand railway station was being developed at Khajuraho, while the redeveloped Gwalior station would offer airport-like grandeur and facilities.
Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla, Minister of State for Urban Development and Housing Pratima Bagri, MPs Ganesh Singh, Janardan Mishra, Vishnu Dutt Sharma and Dr. Rajesh Mishra, railway officials and other dignitaries attended the events.
New Passenger Train Service to Facilitate Students, Patients and Daily Commuters: With the commencement of the new Devendranagar-Churhat-Devendranagar passenger train service, passengers in the concerned areas will have improved rail connectivity through Satna and Rewa. This will provide a convenient travel option for students, working professionals, traders, patients, farmers and other daily commuters.
The new rail connectivity will also enhance the prospects of transporting local agricultural produce, stone crafts, handicrafts and other products to larger markets. This may provide a boost to local trade, transportation, food services and other small businesses.
Tourism to Receive a Boost, Local Employment Opportunities to Increase: The Vindhya and Bundelkhand regions are known for their natural beauty, historical heritage and numerous sites of cultural significance. Improved rail connectivity will help facilitate access to tourist destinations in Panna, Khajuraho, Rewa and the surrounding areas.
Major tourist attractions in the region include the White Tiger Safari, Mukundpur, Chachai and Bahuti waterfalls, Rewa Fort and Govindgarh. Improved rail connectivity is expected to make travel to these destinations more convenient and promote regional tourism. An increase in tourist movement may also benefit hotels, local transport services, guides, handicrafts and small businesses.
