Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said it is a matter of great happiness to witness cheetahs, once extinct in the Asian continent, now thriving and expanding their family on the sacred land of Madhya Pradesh.
CM Mohan Yadav released female cheetahs Asha, Dheera, and Asha’s three cubs into the open forest from their enclosure at Palpur-Kuno National Park in Sheopur on Wednesday. He expressed confidence that Kuno would establish itself as a significant tourism destination. Dr. Yadav stated that it was his privilege to release five cheetahs into the forest and extended his congratulations to the citizens of the state.
Dr. Yadav emphasized the state’s commitment to preserving wildlife and biodiversity for future generations. He affirmed that Madhya Pradesh would continue to take innovative steps to enhance its rich natural heritage.
The CM wished for the cheetahs to flourish and become a major attraction for tourists. He appreciated the dedication of the personnel engaged in wildlife conservation and the protection of biodiversity in the national park, reiterating the government’s commitment to their welfare.
He also encouraged eco-tourism initiatives in Kuno Sanctuary, highlighting that such efforts would not only aid conservation but also generate employment opportunities for local communities.
Dr. Yadav reiterated the state government’s vision to develop Kuno National Park into an ideal wildlife sanctuary for future reintroduction programs.
So far, seven cheetahs have been released into the wild from Kuno. With the addition of two new cubs born to Veera, the total number of cheetahs in the park has reached 26. Two monitoring teams have been formed to oversee the released cubs’ safety and well-being.
The cheetah release program at Kuno National Park was attended by Gwalior-Chambal Commissioner Shri Manoj Khatri, I.G. Chambal, Shri Sushant Saxena, Sheopur Collector Shri. Arpit Verma, CCF Shri Uttam Sharma, and DFO Kuno Shri. R. Thirukural, along with other administrative and forest department officials.
