MP: Deepak Joshi, who resigned from the BJP after being denied a ticket in the last assembly elections and subsequently joined Congress, has made a return to his former party. On Saturday, he rejoined the BJP in a ceremony held in Nandner, Budhni, in the presence of Union Minister of Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Joshi had left the BJP to join Congress a year ago and had previously attempted to return to the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections. However, his return was not finalized at that time.
Union Minister Chouhan is actively campaigning for BJP candidate Ramakant Bhargava in the Budhni assembly by-election, and Joshi officially rejoined the BJP during an election meeting. Chouhan welcomed him warmly with a hug.
Deepak Joshi is the son of the late former Chief Minister Kailash Joshi. After failing to secure a BJP ticket in the last state assembly elections, he joined Congress, which embraced him and nominated him as their candidate for the Khategaon assembly seat. However, he lost to BJP candidate Ashish Sharma by over 12,000 votes.
Disillusioned with Congress after his electoral defeat, Joshi sought to return to the BJP within six months. His return was initially stalled due to opposition from some party members, who stipulated that he must apologize to certain BJP leaders. While Joshi agreed to apologize to the party, he declined to visit any leaders’ homes to do so.
Interestingly, just four days ago, on November 3, Joshi was actively campaigning for the Congress candidate during the by-election. Now, he will be seen seeking votes for the BJP candidate, marking a rare instance of a leader who recently supported one party now campaigning for another.
