To expand milk processing capacity and strengthen dairy sector in Ujjain and surrounding areas, Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation is establishing a modern dairy plant at a cost of Rs 255 crore. Union Cooperation and Home Minister Amit Shah will perform digital Bhoomi Pujan of this plant from Bhopal on October 3, 2026.
This state-of-the-art dairy plant being established in Ujjain will give new momentum to milk processing, value addition and production of various dairy products in the region. Of the total project cost, Rs 170 crore will be provided by the state government as a grant, while the remaining Rs 85 crore will be raised by the Milk Union through loan. The project is targeted to be completed within the next two years.
The proposed plant will begin with a milk processing capacity of 3 lakh litres per day. In future, its capacity can be increased to 5 lakh litres per day. This will enable expansion of processing capacity along with the increasing availability of milk in Ujjain and surrounding areas.
Production from Packed Milk to Ghee: Various types of dairy products will be produced at the plant with modern processing facilities. It will have a capacity to produce 1.50 lakh litres of packed milk per day, 25,000 litres of curd per day and 10,000 litres of lassi/buttermilk per day. In addition, a ghee plant with a capacity of 10 metric tonnes per day will also be established.
Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation Jaidev Biswas said, “Establishment of a modern dairy plant in Ujjain is an important step towards expansion of the dairy sector in Madhya Pradesh. Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Shah will perform the digital Bhoomi Pujan of this project from Bhopal. This project will ensure better processing and value addition of milk received from milk producers and increase the capacity to provide quality dairy products to consumers.” He said, “Arrangements have been made to expand the plant to 5 lakh litres per day in future. This will strengthen the entire chain of milk production, collection, processing and marketing in Ujjain and surrounding areas and will also give momentum to the rural economy.”
This project will promote better utilisation and value addition of milk received from milk producers through modern processing facilities. At the same time, expansion of dairy activities in the region will help strengthen the rural economy and will also prove to be an important initiative towards delivering high-quality dairy products to consumers.
