Bhopal: Alliance Française de Bhopal, in association with Cine’ Classic, will screen acclaimed French filmmaker Maurice Pialat’s celebrated film Van Gogh on Friday, 21 August, at 6:30 PM at Alliance Française, B-75, Shahpura, Bhopal. Entry is free.
Released in 1991, Van Gogh is a sensitive and deeply human portrayal of the final months of the life of legendary painter Vincent van Gogh. Rather than presenting him simply as a “tormented genius,” the film explores him as a human being struggling with love, loneliness, mental anguish and an intense devotion to art.
Jacques Dutronc delivers a remarkable performance as Van Gogh. Pialat’s restrained and realistic direction, along with the evocative use of natural landscapes and light, gives the film an intimate and distinctive quality.
The screening offers art and cinema enthusiasts an opportunity to experience a remarkable film about one of the world’s greatest painters.
