Taking a significant step in the semiconductor sector, the National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR), Bhopal, has launched a Skill Center for Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT).
The objective of this center is to provide training related to the semiconductor industry and to develop practical capabilities—such as assembly, testing, marking, and packaging—to cultivate a skilled workforce that is industry-ready.
The Institute has also introduced advanced courses and an M.Sc. program in semiconductors, offering students hands-on experience and project-based learning. The curriculum will provide comprehensive knowledge ranging from semiconductor design to its various applications, thereby enhancing the students’ industry-oriented proficiency.
Furthermore, the institute has submitted a proposal to the Government of Madhya Pradesh to establish a Research and Innovation Park dedicated to OSAT. The proposed park will feature assembly and packaging facilities for discrete power semiconductor devices and application-specific multi-chip modules.
Prof. C.C. Tripathi, the Director of the Institute, stated that the measures undertaken by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to promote the semiconductor packaging and electronics industries are highly commendable. The state’s proactive policies are expected to drive rapid growth in the electronics and semiconductor sectors within the region.
Prof. Tripathi said this initiative is also being aligned with the objectives of the India Semiconductor Mission, which aims to position India as a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing and design. In line with this effort, the Department of Higher Education, Madhya Pradesh, is also organizing five-day training programs on Semiconductor Science and Technology for faculty members.
Once the proposed center is established, students pursuing ITI, Diploma, Polytechnic, B.Tech, M.Tech, and Science programs will be able to access high-quality training on a large scale. This initiative is poised to serve as a significant milestone in the realm of skill development within the state.
A total budget of Rs 27.50 crore has been proposed for the Research and Innovation Park, with a request for Rs 13.50 crore in funding from the Department of Higher Education.
According to Prof. P.K. Purohit, Dean of Corporate and International Relations, India is rapidly emerging as a global manufacturing hub for semiconductors, a development that will necessitate a large pool of skilled human resources. He stated that this center will equip students and faculty with the latest technologies, insights into industry demands, research and innovation capabilities, and career guidance, thereby providing a strong foundation for the country’s technological future.
