Mumbai: The inaugural event of Vishwarang – Tagore International Literature and Arts Festival 2025 will be held in Mumbai under the banner “Aarambh – Vishwarang, Mumbai.” This two-day national festival, scheduled for 13–14 November 2025 at the Green Technology Auditorium, University of Mumbai (Kalina Campus), aims to provide a platform for dialogue, exchange, and harmony among Indian languages, highlighting their shared cultural foundations.
The festival will be inaugurated under the chairmanship of the Governor of Maharashtra. The Chief Guest will be Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, while Ravindra Kulkarni, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mumbai, and Santosh Choubey, Director, Vishwarang Foundation and Chancellor of Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, will grace the occasion as Special Guests. The inaugural session will also witness the release of the “Report on Hindi in the World” and the Vishwarang Catalogue.
Key Sessions and Themes
Day One
Inter-connectedness and Harmony among Indian Languages – with contributions from A. Aravindakshan, Om Thanvi, Santosh Choubey, Chandrakant Bhonjal, Laxman Gaikwad, and Dr. Karuna Shankar Upadhyay.
The Landscape of Hindi Short Stories in the New Century – featuring Surya Bala, Dhirendra Asthana, Manoj Rupda, Mukesh Verma, and Oma Sharma.
Evening sessions will include multilingual poetry readings and a cultural performance by the Folk Arts Academy of the University of Mumbai.
Day Two
The Contribution of Indian Cinema to the Growth of Language and Culture – with eminent speakers Ajay Brahmatmaj, Rumi Jaffery, Purushottam Agrawal, Ashok Mishra, Anang Desai, Chhaya Ganguly, and Salim Arif.
The Colourful World of Mumbai’s Performing Arts – featuring Jayant Deshmukh, Vaman Kendre, Preeta Mathur, Atul Tiwari, and Akhilendra.
Science Communication in Indian Languages – a dedicated session exploring the role of vernacular languages in disseminating scientific knowledge.
The Valedictory Session will centre on a special centenary discussion on Dharmveer Bharati, including the release of the 186th edition of his classic novel “Gunahon Ka Devta.”
Speaking about the festival, Santosh Choubey remarked: “The core objective of Aarambh – Vishwarang, Mumbai is to bring Indian languages together on a single platform, recognising their shared cultural sources and interrelationships. This event seeks to connect Mumbai’s literary and artistic heritage with national and international dialogues, while actively engaging the younger generation with language, literature, and creative perspectives.
Choubey further said, “In India, linguistic dialogue is not merely a medium of expression—it is the foundation of cultural consciousness and social coexistence. Aarambh – Vishwarang, Mumbai thus presents the multilingual soul of India both as a celebration and as a serious intellectual tradition, reviving dialogue, empathy, and collective memory across diverse languages and cultures.”
