Haryana Assembly Election Result 2024: The outcome of the Haryana Assembly Election 2024 has taken everyone by surprise. Contrary to exit polls that predicted a decisive win for the Congress party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious. This unexpected result has delivered a significant blow to Congress, which seemed poised to win based on pre-election trends favoring the party.
Despite the anticipation of a Congress win, the BJP managed to secure victory, surpassing all expectations. This defeat has also exposed underlying tensions within the INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) opposition alliance. Key figures from other alliance members, such as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Shiv Sena UBT, have offered unsolicited advice to Congress in light of the setback.
Reports from various media outlets suggest that Congress’s defeat has caused unease among the parties that form the INDIA Alliance. Many are puzzled as to how Congress could lose an election where the prevailing issues appeared to work in its favor.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, in a public statement, urged Congress to remain cautious and not fall prey to overconfidence. “No election is easy, and every seat is contested,” Kejriwal said, emphasizing that elections require diligence and should not be taken lightly.
The AAP had initially planned to contest the Haryana elections in alliance with Congress, but disagreements over seat-sharing led both parties to fight independently. This disunity may have contributed to Congress’s lackluster performance in the state.
Shiv Sena UBT (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi also weighed in, advising Congress to reconsider its election strategies. Chaturvedi dismissed concerns that the Haryana election results would affect future outcomes in Maharashtra but added that Congress underperformed in Haryana. She urged Congress to reflect on its campaign strategies and address its shortcomings ahead of upcoming elections.
Similarly, CPI leader D. Raja called for serious introspection within Congress, suggesting that the party should learn from its failure in Haryana. He also recommended that Congress adopt a more collaborative approach in future elections, such as those in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, by working closely with its INDIA Alliance partners.
At the same time, negotiations are underway between Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar’s NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) for seat-sharing in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. Amidst this dialogue, Shiv Sena took a thinly veiled jab at Congress over its loss in Haryana, indicating potential friction within the alliance.
In response, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh addressed these remarks, noting that Congress had secured the most seats in Maharashtra during the last Lok Sabha elections-2024. He cautioned alliance partners to refrain from discussing internal matters publicly or in the media. Ramesh emphasized that Congress was committed to strengthening the alliance in Maharashtra but warned that internal issues should be kept private. His comments appeared to be a subtle retort to Priyanka Chaturvedi’s earlier criticism, further indicating growing strain within the alliance.
The unexpected BJP victory in Haryana has raised concerns not only for Congress but for the broader opposition alliance. As the INDIA Alliance prepares for the upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, the Haryana results serve as a reminder of the challenges ahead. The defeat has sparked a round of blame and advice among alliance partners, highlighting the need for unity and a cohesive strategy.
Congress, in particular, will need to introspect and adjust its approach to ensure a better performance in the upcoming elections. If it fails to address internal discord and external criticism, it risks further setbacks, which could weaken the INDIA Alliance’s collective efforts against the BJP in future contests.
