A ‘Cheetah Chaupal’ was organized at Van Vihar National Park Bhopal on Thursday to mark the completion of four years since the reintroduction of cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh. The event aimed to raise awareness among students and the youth about cheetah conservation, the journey of their reintroduction, and wildlife conservation in general.
Principal Secretary (Forest) Raghavendra Kumar Singh joined the event virtually and shared information regarding the conservation, breeding, and habitat of the cheetahs over the past four years. He also interacted with the students and youth, apprising them of the ongoing management and conservation efforts aimed at securing the future of the cheetahs.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) and Head of Forest Force Shubhranjan Sen, along with PCCF and Chief Wildlife Warden Dr. Samita Rajora, provided the students with key information regarding cheetah rehabilitation, conservation, natural habitats, and wildlife protection.
Kuno National Park Field Director Uttam Sharma joined the ‘Cheetah Chaupal’ virtually and briefed the students on the management measures undertaken under Project Cheetah over the last four years.
An exhibition focused on cheetahs was also organized by Kuno National Park as part of the event. Stone painting and wooden tile painting competitions were held for the students, witnessing enthusiastic participation from approximately 90 students representing various schools and colleges in Bhopal.
This student participation helped foster a positive attitude towards wildlife and spread awareness about cheetah rehabilitation and conservation. The winners of the competitions were awarded prizes by the PCCF (Head of Forest Force) and the Chief Wildlife Warden. Officials and staff from Van Vihar, along with the students, were present on the occasion.
