Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh has a rich tradition of both traditional and modern sports. ‘Khelo MP’ Youth Games is not merely a competition but a sports festival, reflecting this rich heritage. He said that when an athlete sweats, runs and strives on the field, it is not just a player but the nation’s bright future that runs there.
Dr. Yadav formally announced the commencement of the State-Level Khelo MP Youth Games–2026 on Tuesday evening at Tatya Tope Nagar Stadium, Bhopal. Amid an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, energy and excitement among youth, players and citizens of Bhopal, the Games were inaugurated with colourful cultural performances.
On the occasion, CM Dr. Mohan Yadav welcomed and felicitated Padma Shri awardee, renowned Sufi singer and folk music composer Kailash Kher, who had come to Bhopal to perform, by presenting him with a floral bouquet and a memento. A special dance-drama titled ‘From the Field to the Medal’ was also presented, portraying the struggle, dedication and perseverance of athletes in shaping their future through sports.
CM said that the State Government is also promoting traditional sports. For the first time, traditional rural games such as Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Mallakhamb, Pitthi and Tug of War, along with Throw Ball and Cricket, have been included in the Khelo MP Youth Games.
He stated that to promote sports tourism and develop Madhya Pradesh as a sports hub, the State Government is constructing an International Sports Complex at Nathoo Barkheda in Bhopal at a cost of nearly Rs 1,000 crore. Once completed, Bhopal will be known not only as the City of Lakes but also as a ‘Sports City’.
Minister for Sports & Youth Welfare and Cooperation Vishwas Kailash Sarang said that nearly one lakh players from across the State are participating in the Khelo MP Youth Games. He informed that the government plans to establish a sports complex in every Assembly constituency.
