Himachal Cloudburst: The death toll in cloudburst and flash flood incidents in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district has risen to 10 after five more bodies were recovered. Besides, the search for 34 missing people is continuing. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, 11 incidents of cloudburst, four of flash floods and a major landslide were reported in the state. Most of these incidents took place in Mandi district affecting normal life. Cloudburst was reported at four places in Gohar, three in Karsog, two in Dharampur and one in Thunag of Mandi.
Two bodies were recovered in Sianj of Gohar and one each in Thunag, Dhar Jarol and Pandiv Sheel areas. The identity of the deceased has not been revealed yet. Two people died in Bara of Gohar and one in Talwara on Tuesday while one person died in Purana Bazar of Karsog. One body was recovered in Neri-Kotla of Jogindernagar.
Heavy rainfall has caused widespread damage to infrastructure. A total of 282 roads were closed in the state due to heavy rains and 1361 transformers and 639 water schemes were disrupted.
According to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), the maximum damage was caused in Mandi. In Mandi till Wednesday morning, 182 roads remained closed for vehicular movement and 633 transformers and 465 water schemes were affected.
Besides, 24 houses, 12 cattle sheds, a bridge and many roads were damaged, 30 cattle were killed, while a total of 370 people, including 316 people in Mandi, have been rescued and 11 are still stranded.
Two teams each of NDRF and SDRF, along with police and home guards are actively engaged in search and rescue operations in the district. Meanwhile, light to moderate rains continue in many areas of the state. Kasauli received 55 mm of rain since last evening, followed by Baggi 54.8 mm, Dharampur 38.8 mm, Mandi 36.8 mm, Sarahan 32 mm, Solan 27.4 mm, Pandoh 27 mm, Jubbarhatti 26.2 mm and Shimla 24.2 mm.
