In the last few years, there has been an increase in the cases of diabetes among school children and the Central Board of Secondary Education has directed all the affiliated schools to set up ‘Sugar Board’ and this step will be effective in protecting children from obesity, type-2 diabetes and other metabolic diseases.
In this regard, the city’s dietician Dr. Preeti Shukla took an awareness session at Sri Satya Sai Vidya Vihar where School Principal Dr. Anju Chopra was also present.
The average sugar consumption of children in India should be 5 percent of the total calories, whereas it is 17 percent at present.
National Executive Member of Indian Dietetic Association, Senior Nutritionist Dr. Preeti Shukla said that nowadays the diet of children has very less nutritious food and junk is being consumed a lot in the name of taste, due to which negative effects are seen on the physical and intellectual development of children nowadays.
Whether adults or children, nutrition management is possible only when nutrition is given more importance than taste in their diet.
Take a balanced diet and give importance to it, i.e. if you give your body the right amount of fuel, it will work fine.
Parents should pay attention and change their habits, their own as well as the children’s because children follow their parents quickly.
Some important suggestions that will help in nutrition management
