
Art Way and Create Stories NGO organised two-day folk art workshop for enthusiasts of every age recently at The Imagination Station Anand Bazar in Indore. People from different professions and age groups participated in the workshop and learned about various Folk Art Forms under the guidance of Senior Folk Artist Alka Jha.
“Folk art lets us experience and understand life beyond limitations of boundaries, in fact, it helps us in finding newer ways to express forms,” organiser Deepak Sharma said.
He added that the motive for organising the workshop is to pass on traditionally folk art to latest generation of artists and help them explore the exotic world of Indian arts.
During the workshop, senior artist Alka Jha taught various figures, forms and elements of traditional folk art of Bihar ‘Gondana’. She also shared story of Raja Shailesh, who was the prime inspiration of Gonda folk art.
“Many tribes of Bihar still use designs of these traditional arts and make tattoos on the body,” Alka said. These tattoos are prepared using a specific items like natural kohl, mother’s milk and some essential oils.
“Dipping the needle in this mix and making a tattoo cures tribal people from skin infections and further even promotes their immunity,” Shubha said. She added that these designs are also considered auspicious and blissful in tribes.
