
Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025 Stampede: More than 14 people died in the stampede at around 1.30 am on the banks of Sangam during the intervening night of January 28-29. More than 50 are injured. After the stampede, on the request of the administration, all 13 akhadas have canceled the Amrit Snan of Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday (January 29).
However, a meeting of the saints of the Akharas was held at 9 am. In this meeting, it was decided that the Amrit Snan of the Akharas will continue after 10 am. Akhada Parishad President Ravindra Puri said that now the crowd at the ghats fixed for the Akharas has decreased. In such a situation, it has been decided that the Amrit Snan will continue. However, Shobha Yatra will not be taken out. The Akharas will also keep their procession small.
A sudden stampede occurred at Sangam Nose at around 1.30 am on Tuesday-Wednesday night. According to initial information, panic spread among the devotees due to some rumor and the crowd became uncontrollable. During the chaos, some women fell down, after which people trampled them and moved ahead.
After this incident, the administration has deployed NSG commandos to control the situation. At the same time, entry of common people has been banned in Sangam Nose area to control the crowd of devotees.
Most of the pontoon bridges were closed due to Amrit Snan. Due to this, a crowd of crores of people reaching Sangam kept gathering. After this some people fell after getting stuck in the barricades. Seeing this, there was a rumor of stampede.
Entry and exit routes were not separate at Sangam Nose. People were going back from the same route from which they were coming. In such a situation, when the stampede occurred, people did not get a chance to escape. They kept falling on each other.
After the accident, more than 70 ambulances reached the Sangam Ghat. The injured and the dead were taken to the hospital. After the accident, NSG commandos took charge on the Sangam Ghat. Entry of common people was stopped in Sangam Nose area.
To prevent the crowd from increasing, devotees have been stopped in the districts adjoining Prayagraj. The administration has been alerted there
After the stampede, PM Modi is constantly in touch with UP CM Yogi Adityanath. PM Modi spoke to CM Yogi for the third time on Wednesday morning and took updates about Mahakumbh 2025. PM Modi directed CM Yogi to fix the arrangements in the fair area and bathing area.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath has called an emergency meeting of officers at the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow after the stampede in Mahakumbh. In this meeting, the officers discussed crowd management in Mahakumbh as well as Ayodhya and Varanasi. CM Yogi has instructed the officers to take appropriate steps to control the crowd at all these places.
Instructions have been given to increase surveillance in the Mahakumbh area. Helicopters have been deployed to monitor the fair area. Drones have been asked to keep a close watch on the fair area from the sky.
Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya has appealed to the devotees to exercise restraint. Swami Rambhadracharya said, “Today a huge crowd has gathered in Prayagraj, so devotees should not insist on taking a holy dip only at the Sangam Ghat.” Swami Rambhadracharya has appealed to the devotees to stay in their camps for the time being and give priority to their safety. Also, suggested that devotees can take bath at other nearby ghats so that the crowd at Sangam Ghat does not increase and any untoward incident can be avoided.
