The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has submitted a proposal to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) concerning the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The PCB has suggested that the Indian team could return to India after each match, with the Pakistani board offering assistance to facilitate this arrangement.
The PCB recently communicated through a letter to the BCCI, indicating that if the Indian team has security concerns about staying in Pakistan, they could return to Chandigarh or New Delhi after each game. This proposal comes in light of a week-long gap between India’s last two matches in the tournament, as confirmed by a PCB official.
Discussions regarding the Indian team’s potential visit to Pakistan were also held during the recent visit of India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to Pakistan. The topic was raised multiple times during talks with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, leading to increased optimism from the PCB, although no official statement has been made yet.
In the past, the Pakistan team visited India for the ODI World Cup last year, where they played against India in Ahmedabad on October 14, resulting in a 7-wicket victory for India. Key performances included fifties from Captain Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer, while Jasprit Bumrah was named Player of the Match for taking 2 wickets for 19 runs.
Pakistan’s Last Tour of India: The last visit by Pakistan to India occurred in 2012-13, featuring a bilateral series of 3 ODIs and 2 T20 matches, where Pakistan won the ODI series 2-1, and the T20 series ended in a 1-1 tie.
India’s Last Tour of Pakistan: Team India last visited Pakistan in 2008, winning a 3-Test series 1-0, with two matches drawn.
Since the terrorist attack in Mumbai in 2008, the Indian team has not traveled to Pakistan. Following this incident, the Indian government prohibited cricket matches in Pakistan, leading to both teams only competing in ICC and ACC tournaments. Since 2013, they have played 13 ODIs and 8 T20 matches.
