Bhopal: The Bhopal School of Social Sciences (BSSS), Bhopal, celebrated World Nature Day on its campus with great enthusiasm, bringing together environmental awareness, cultural expression, creativity and student participation. The programme was organised by the Department of Humanities in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, under the guidance of the respective Heads of Departments, Dr. Vinay Mishra and Dr. Ranjit Kaur.
Centred on the theme of Panch Tatva—Prithvi (Earth), Jal (Water), Agni (Fire), Vayu (Air) and Akash (Space), the celebration highlighted the significance of the five fundamental elements that sustain life and maintain the ecological balance of our planet.
The programme commenced with the Royal Tonga Procession, creating a distinctive and vibrant opening to the celebration. This was followed by a welcome address by Dr. Fr. John P. J. Principal BSSS who highlighted the importance of Panch Tatva in human existence and the natural world. He emphasised the interconnectedness of the five elements and the need to respect, preserve and protect nature for the well-being of present and future generations. His address set the tone for a celebration rooted in environmental consciousness and sustainable living.
The programme unfolded through a series of engaging cultural presentations, including Panch Tatva and The Last Tree. While Panch Tatva celebrated the harmony among the five elements of nature, The Last Tree delivered a powerful message about the consequences of environmental degradation and the urgent need to conserve trees and natural resources. Indo-Western and Tribal Dance performances added colour and cultural vibrancy to the event, showcasing the students’ talent, creativity and enthusiasm.
One of the major highlights of the celebration was the Nature-Themed Fashion Walk, where students confidently walked the ramp in creative interpretations of nature and environmental elements. The fashion walk beautifully blended style, confidence and environmental consciousness, encouraging participants and spectators to reflect on the importance of protecting our natural heritage.
The program was judged by Dr. Lila Simon Academic Incharge and Dr. Vandana Yadav Head of Science Department, The much-awaited titles of Mr. Nisarg and Ms. Nisarg were announced during the fashion walk, along with the runner-up positions. The recognition celebrated the participants’ confidence, creativity, presentation and engagement with the theme of nature. The event provided a vibrant platform for students to express their individuality while conveying a meaningful message of environmental responsibility.
Musical interludes and captivating dance performances kept the audience engaged throughout the celebration. The Grand Finale Dance brought the cultural segment to an energetic and memorable close, reflecting the spirit of unity, creativity and appreciation for nature.
The celebration served as a meaningful reminder that environmental protection begins with awareness and grows through responsible action. By integrating the philosophy of Panch Tatva with cultural performances and creative student initiatives, the programme encouraged the campus community to embrace sustainable practices and recognise its collective responsibility towards the planet.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, leaving the audience with a powerful message: protecting nature is not merely a choice; it is a shared responsibility towards life and future generations.
