Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that water is the very foundation of life, and preserving and rejuvenating our traditional water structures is our foremost social and environmental responsibility. Initiated with this noble objective, the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan has evolved beyond a government programme into a sacred people’s movement, driven by the active participation of citizens across the state.
Dr. Yadav stated that Madhya Pradesh has achieved unprecedented success in water conservation and rejuvenation, with the completion of a record over 2 lakh water structures. He added that Madhya Pradesh is playing a leading role in the nation’s efforts to conserve and safeguard water resources.
Over 2 Lakh Key Water Structures Constructed and Restored at a Cost of Rs 6,330 Cr
Under Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan-2026, an ambitious target of 3,67,777 works was set across the state. Of these, 2, 00,844 major water conservation and rejuvenation works have already been completed, while 1, 51,093 works are progressing rapidly.
To ensure the timely and quality implementation of this large-scale campaign, the State Government approved a total outlay of ₹10,644.02 crore. Out of this, Rs 6,330.81 crore (approximately 59.5 per cent) has already been utilised, reflecting the campaign’s substantial progress and effective execution.
Water Revolution in Agriculture and Rural Areas
To strengthen water self-sufficiency in rural and agricultural regions, a record 57,794 farm ponds and 91,838 dug-well recharge structures have been constructed or restored. In addition, 29,906 water conservation and recharge structures have been completed to preserve traditional and newly created water sources.
The construction of 126 Amrit Sarovars has also been completed entirely.To strengthen irrigation infrastructure, 1,152 dedicated irrigation infrastructure projects have been successfully executed, while 2,721 repair and maintenance works have been completed to revive ageing water structures.
Social, Environmental and Educational Initiatives Strengthened
The Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan has also focused on social, environmental and educational dimensions of water conservation. Under watershed management initiatives, 4,822 works have been completed, which are expected to significantly improve groundwater levels across the state.
To ensure hygiene and safe drinking water in schools, 5,275 water storage tanks have been cleaned through the WoW Mobile App initiative. Under the Jal Sansad Jal Bandhan 2.0 (JSJB 2.0) initiative, more than 21.23 lakh activities have been successfully registered, achieving an impressive 91.3 per cent timely completion rate.
Madhya Pradesh’s Water Management Model to Set a National Benchmark
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav attributed this historic achievement to the active participation of the people, local public representatives and the dedicated efforts of the administrative machinery.
He said that Madhya Pradesh’s robust water management model will provide a new and exemplary direction for the entire country. Protecting future generations from water scarcity remains the state’s highest priority, and Madhya Pradesh will continue to pursue innovation and sustainable solutions in water conservation and management.
