Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav stated that India believes in a festival-loving culture. While Makar Sankranti is celebrated with great enthusiasm in North India, the Pongal festival, especially in Tamil Nadu, symbolises joy and the change of seasons in South India.
CM said that Pongal is also an occasion to worship nature and express gratitude towards livestock. Traditional delicacies prepared with milk, jaggery and boiled rice are especially relished during the festival. Today, cuisines from all regions and communities are available across the country, enabling Indian citizens to enjoy the festivals and traditions of every state.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav addressed the Happy Pongal Festival organised on Friday evening at Hotel Palash. MLA Vishnu Khatri was also present. Dr. Yadav watched and appreciated the various cultural performances presented during the event.
CM Mohan Yadav also visited the stalls showcasing various facets of the Pongal festival and congratulated the organisers and participating citizens for their efforts.
The Secretary to the Chief Minister and Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, Ilaiya Raja T, along with several members of the Tamil community, were present.
CM was accorded a traditional welcome with ceremonial attire.
