Strong tremors of 4.4 magnitude from an earthquake shook Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning, causing panic among residents in the National Capital, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and other nearby areas.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the epicentre of the earthquake was in Jhajjar, Haryana, 10 km under the ground..
The tremors were felt around 9.04 am and lasted for several seconds. The strong tremors sparked panic as people rushed outside their offices and homes. No casualties or damage have been reported so far, but authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
At many places, people gathered in open fields or on the roads.
A Delhi resident said, “It was a very strong earthquake, and we were all scared.”
“There were strong jolts. We were terrified. We just ran outside,” another told.
“I could see the fan moving. We immediately ran out of our houses,” a Noida resident told. “I was working on my laptop when I felt the chair moving. Then I looked at the fan, and it was also moving. I quickly ran out of my home,” a local of Delhi said.
Delhi-NCR is considered a sensitive area in terms of earthquakes and it falls in seismic zone 4. This zone is counted among the areas with high seismic activity.
Delhi Police said that no damage has been reported so far in the earthquake that occurred in Delhi-NCR this morning. We wish well for all Delhiites.
