Rashami Desai is back on television as Maya in Star Plus’ Sayoneee, which premiered on 23 September. At the show’s launch in Mumbai, she spoke about what drew her to the role and the bond she still shares with television audiences.
Rashami had a light-hearted answer when asked why she took up the show. “Mere astrologer ne kaha, ‘Ye show pakad lo. Tumhara fame teen guna badhne wala hai,’” she joked. (My astrologer said, ‘Work in this show. your fame is going to increase threefold.)
Speaking about Maya, she said, “Maya is a very practical woman who sees the world differently. She believes there should be no difference between men and women. Sometimes you’ll be angry with her; sometimes you’ll feel she’s right. You may love Maya or hate her, but you’ll love watching her.”
“Television meri maa hai,” Rashami added. “Maine Tapasya ka kirdaar kiya, Shorvori ka kirdaar kiya, aur ab Maya ka kirdaar kar rahi hoon. Fans ne mujhe hamesha bahut pyaar diya hai. Har kirdaar se expectations hoti hain, lekin low grounds se chalna is always good.” (I played the role of Tapasya, played the role of Shorvori, and now I am playing the role of Maya. Fans have always loved me a lot. There are expectations from every character, but walking from low grounds is always good.)
