Indore: In today’s fast-paced life, children’s mental and emotional health has become a critical subject. These insights were shared by Clinical and Child Psychologist Dr. Vini Jharia during a parenting session held recently at a private school.
She explained that behavioral changes in children are a natural process. However, it is essential for parents to identify what their child is going through. When children cannot articulate their feelings verbally, their behavior begins to reflect the shift—often manifesting as sudden silence, irritability, or anger.
By paying attention to minor habits, sleep patterns, and school activities, parents can easily gauge whether their child needs guidance or support , Dr Jhariya said.
Dr. Vini Jharia emphasized that the home environment forms the foundation of a child’s overall development. To maintain a positive atmosphere, parents should spend daily quality time with their children.
Engage without Distractions: Talk to children without phones or TV, play games together, and listen attentively to their small thoughts.
Foster Security: When a home provides love, trust, and unconditional acceptance, children feel secure.
Avoid Comparison: Instead of scolding or comparing them to others, praise their minor achievements and allow them to learn from their mistakes.
Parents should look out for these behavioral red flags
Extreme Isolation: Suddenly distancing from friends and family, spending excessive time alone.
Irritability and Anger: Frequent outbursts, shouting, or throwing objects over minor issues.
Changes in Diet and Sleep: Sudden loss of appetite, overeating, insomnia, or excessive sleeping.
Loss of Interest: Withdrawing completely from hobbies or sports they previously enjoyed.
Low Self-Esteem: Persistently making negative self-remarks.
Excessive Fear or Anxiety: Feeling frightened or stressed constantly without a major trigger.
Unexplained Physical Complaints: Frequently complaining of stomachaches or headaches without any underlying medical condition.
