Chandigarh: The true essence of service lies not in fanfare, but in those silent efforts that transform society without any expectation of reward. By honoring such ‘unsung heroes,’ the Art of Living has conveyed a message that extends far beyond the mere act of presenting awards; it serves as a powerful call to awaken and sensitize society. Speaking on this occasion,
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria remarked that recognizing those who work behind the scenes is perhaps the most challenging—yet most essential—of tasks. Commending the vision of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, he stated that true service is that which is rendered without any desire for personal recognition.
During the ceremony, Colonel Gulshan Mehta—an officer of the Indian Army currently serving in the defense services in Bathinda—was honored as a distinguished recipient of the prestigious Art of Living ‘Unsung Heroes’ Award.
This esteemed accolade was bestowed upon Colonel Gulshan Mehta in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the military services, his ingenuity during the COVID-19 pandemic—specifically his creation of low-cost ventilators using repurposed scrap materials—and his numerous achievements in the technical domain.
The felicitation ceremony was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chandigarh and was presided over by the Governor of Punjab, Gulab Chand Kataria.
Member of Parliament Satnam Singh Sandhu was also present at the event. Describing this initiative as a source of inspiration for society, he emphasized the critical need for collective action on pressing issues such as drug de-addiction and water conservation.
Other honorees from diverse fields included Sudhir Goyal, Vipul Taneja, Prabhat Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar ‘Tinku’, Sahil Jethi, Manpreet Singh, Tejinder Singh, Chetan Sharma, Dr. Disha Khanna, and the Sanjhi Sikhiya Foundation.
As Gurudev aptly puts it, “Spirituality means service and sharing.” It is this very spirit that is reflected in the deeds of these heroes. This felicitation ceremony is not merely an event; it is an initiative designed to remind society that true transformation is brought about by those individuals who continue to serve selflessly, without seeking fame or recognition.
