Betul: Shivani Uike, a girl from a village in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh, has brought laurels to her district and state.
Shivani, a national-level Kabaddi player and a resident of Borpend village in Athner block, has been selected in the Border Security Force (BSF). Shivani, the only daughter of farmer Fakira Uike, will now contribute to the security of the country’s borders.
Shivani dreamt of serving the nation since childhood. She says that initially, her family was worried, but she explained to them that today’s daughters are excelling in every field. Four years ago, she left her village and came to Betul, where she received guidance from her Kabaddi coach and family members. She gave equal importance to both sports and studies.
Shivani has completed her BSc from Betul College and BPEd from Bhopal. She has participated in four national and several state-level competitions. Besides playing in matches in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Gujarat, she represented the district in the National Kabaddi Championship in Bhubaneswar. She has also served as the captain of the Madhya Pradesh women’s Kabaddi team.
After her recent selection in the BSF, she will leave for training after January 24.
