Sehore: Many schemes are being run by the central and MP government to promote farming and for the welfare and prosperity of farmers. Drip mulching technique is also one of those schemes. Drip mulching scheme is an important scheme aimed at encouraging farmers to cultivate with drip irrigation and mulching techniques and to ensure water conservation, soil quality and increase in production by linking them with advanced techniques like drip mulching. In this scheme, farmers are given subsidy by the government to cultivate with drip mulching technique.
In drip mulching technique, the soil is covered with plastic and the plants are irrigated drop by drop. This technique saves 50 to 60 percent of water. Production increases almost twofold and better quality crops are produced. Farmer Pramod Kasaniya, a resident of village Kothari in Sehore district, is also one of those farmers who have benefited from this scheme.
Farmer Pramod told that earlier he used to do farming with traditional methods, which required more water and more hard work and the production was also less. But when he came to know about the government’s “Drip Mulching Scheme”, he applied without delay and took advantage of it.
After getting the benefit of the scheme, farmer Pramod Kasaniya cultivated watermelon with drip mulching technology and got more production than expected. Along with this, the problem of weeds also ended due to this technique. Currently, farmer Pramod Kasaniya is cultivating chilli and brinjal with this technique and is getting more production at low cost.
Farmer Pramod says that the drip mulching scheme has given a new direction to my farming. Earlier where there was more hard work and less profit, now the same fields are giving me double income. Pramod Kasaniya is today among those successful farmers of the region, who have made their farms the center of production and income by taking advantage of the drip mulching scheme.
The success of Pramod proves that government schemes are meaningful only when farmers become aware and take advantage of them. Drip mulching scheme not only saves water and fertilizer, but also opens the way to an economically strong future for small farmers.
