British PM Keir Starmer has told Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he has “full backing across the United Kingdom” as the two met in Downing Street.
Zelenskyy told the prime minister he was happy Ukraine had “such friends”, after arriving in the UK in the wake of a White House meeting with US President Donald Trump that descended into a row between the two leaders.
Zelenskyy also thanked the United Kingdom for standing with him in this war.
Zelenskyy and Keir Starmer also signed a £2.26 billion loan for Ukrainian military supplies, to be repaid using profits from Russian assets that are currently frozen.
Kier Starmer will host a summit of European leaders on Sunday to discuss efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war as well as broader European security.
The two leaders spoke about the challenges facing Ukraine and Europe, coordination with international partners, and efforts to achieve a just peace with strong security guarantees.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy wrote, “A meaningful and warm meeting with Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer. During our talks, we discussed the challenges facing Ukraine and all of Europe, coordination with partners, concrete steps to strengthen Ukraine’s position, and ending the war with a just peace, along with robust security guarantees.” \
Zelensky will also meet King Charles III of the United Kingdom.
