President Smt. Droupadi Murmu will attend the state-level programme in Omkareshwar on World Sickle Cell Day, June 19, as the Chief Guest. Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will also be present at the programme.
Madhya Pradesh is continuously taking effective steps towards elimination of Sickle Cell disease. Through extensive screening campaigns in tribal-dominated regions, more than 13,243,877 people have been screened for Sickle Cell disease so far. Among them, 39,948 patients and 242,648 carriers have been identified. More than 12,028,881 Sickle Cell Cards have also been distributed, and 3,700 Sickle Mitras have been trained to support community-based awareness and assistance activities.
Through the National Sickle Cell Portal, the state has established a system for screening, tracking and continuous digital monitoring, ensuring regular follow-up and better treatment for patients. Special attention is also being given to Sickle Cell screening among pregnant women, maternal and child health protection, and innovations related to disease management.
Individuals affected by Sickle Cell Disease are being provided free medicines, necessary diagnostic tests and adequate blood transfusion facilities. Extensive public awareness campaigns are being conducted in tribal areas across the state, and continuous training is being provided to field-level health workers, medical personnel and management staff.
Necessary vaccination facilities are being made available to prevent infections. Eligible beneficiaries are also being provided benefits of disability certificates, UDID (Unique Disability ID) Cards and pension schemes. Regular health screening camps and awareness programmes are also being conducted in schools, colleges and hostels.
