Governor and Chancellor Mangubhai Patel stated that Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar was an embodiment of political integrity, women’s empowerment and dedicated public service. She undertook numerous welfare initiatives and resettled 60 families from Junagadh, Gujarat, in Indore. Even after nearly 300 years, her life and legacy continue to inspire generations. He urged students to draw inspiration from Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar and contribute consistently to nation-building.
The Governor was addressing the Convocation Ceremony of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in Indore on Tuesday. Governor Patel conferred PhD degrees and medals upon research scholars and extended his congratulations and best wishes for their bright future.
Governor Mangubhai Patel said that a convocation degree is not merely a certificate but a symbol of responsibility to advance society and the nation. He noted with satisfaction that the number of female graduates exceeded that of male graduates, describing it as a testament to the success of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign. He urged students to consistently uphold the values of service, cooperation, and compassion, and to extend support to the poor, underprivileged and those in need.
Students Should Learn from Every Character of the Ramayana
Addressing the students, Patel advised them to remain steadfast in adverse circumstances, uphold honesty, and always follow the path of truth. He said that even Rama, revered as Maryada Purushottam, faced numerous challenges in life but never deviated from his principles and sense of duty. He faithfully obeyed his parents’ commands. Students, he said, should draw lessons from every character in the Ramayana.
During the ceremony, local Member of Parliament Shankar Lalwani urged students to contribute toward building a developed India. Padma Shri awardee Narayan Vyas encouraged students to set clear life goals and work diligently to achieve them, emphasising the importance of quality education for securing appropriate employment opportunities. Kulguru Dr. Rakesh Singhai provided detailed information about the University’s initiatives aimed at strengthening academic excellence and enhancing the quality and value of higher education.
The ceremony was attended by the Registrar, principals, professors, students, their family members and members of the Executive Council of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya.
