Haryana Election 2024 Results: In a remarkable victory, Indian wrestler and Olympian Vinesh Phogat has won the Julana seat in the Haryana Assembly elections of 2024. Phogat, who contested on a Congress ticket, secured her win by a margin of 6,015 votes, gaining a total of 65,080 votes. Her closest competitor, Yogesh Kumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), garnered 59,065 votes, while Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate Surender Lather finished third in this high-profile contest in Jind district.
Phogat’s victory did not come easily. While she took the lead early in the vote-counting process, she found herself trailing at one point. However, she made a strong comeback, regaining the lead and ultimately achieving a comfortable victory.
Phogat’s entry into the political arena came shortly before the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections when she, along with fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia, joined the Congress party. Her success in this election marks a significant moment not just for her but also for the Congress, as the Julana seat was previously held by the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
In the 2019 elections, JJP’s Amarjeet Dhanda had secured the seat. Prior to that, in 2014 and 2009, the seat was won by Parminder Singh Dhull of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD).
Phogat’s triumph reflects her resilience, both in sports and now in politics, signaling her growing influence in Haryana’s political landscape.
