Jagdalpur: A woman farmer in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district has not only transformed her family’s financial situation by adopting vegetable farming and an integrated farming model, but has also become a source of inspiration for women around her. Anita Kashyap of Tirathgarh village is now known as “Lakhpati Didi,” earning an annual income in lakhs.
According to information received today from the District Public Relations Officer, Anita’s father, Pardeshi Ram, owned only three acres of land, and traditional farming barely provided for the family. Due to financial constraints, Anita had to live with her elder sister for some time.
However, in 2022, Anita decided to change her fortunes by joining the Lal Hazari Self-Help Group. Through the group, she learned about the “Bihan” scheme and the Integrated Agriculture Project, which encourages women to practice integrated farming.
Initially, Anita faced a capital shortage, but under the scheme, she received a revolving fund of four thousand rupees and a community investment fund of ten thousand rupees. Subsequently, she received a bank loan of sixty thousand rupees and an entrepreneurial loan of one lakh fifty thousand rupees under the project. With this money, Anita started a poultry and breeding unit, along with vegetable production, on her land.
Today, Anita earns one lakh sixty-five thousand rupees from vegetable farming, two lakh fifty-five thousand rupees from poultry farming, and sixty-five thousand rupees from the breeding unit annually. Consequently, her total turnover has reached approximately five lakh rupees. Her family, which once struggled with financial constraints, is now living a prosperous life.
Anita Kashyap’s success story shows that with the right guidance and resources, even small farmers can achieve great things. Anita is now inspiring other women to join integrated farming, saying that with hard work and dedication, any woman can become self-reliant.
