In accordance with the National Education Policy 2020, 799 schools in the state are being operated as PM Shri schools. These PM Shri schools serve 480,000 students. The School Education Department has modernized PM Shri schools by developing infrastructure such as smart classrooms, libraries, sports equipment, and art rooms. These PM Shri schools are leading the way in improving the quality of education in other schools in their region.
Vocational Education and Skill Development
Students studying in PM Shri schools are being trained in vocational education and skill development. They are also being informed about future employment opportunities through career counseling. In the 2024-25 academic year, career counselors have been appointed in 124 schools and mental health counselors in 137 schools under the PM Shri scheme.
Approximately 2,41,000 children in grades 9 to 12 have been provided guidance on career options. PM Shri schools are being developed as green schools by introducing solar panels, LED lights, natural farming, nutrition gardens, waste management, plastic-free campuses, and practices related to water and environmental conservation.
Teachers teaching in PM Shri schools have also received training in pedagogy at IIM Indore, Raipur, and TISS Mumbai. 544 PM Shri schools have been selected to develop teaching learning materials (TLMs) for students up to grade 5. Math and Science Circle activities are regularly conducted in all PM Shri schools to foster 21st-century skills, creative thinking, and teamwork among students. Exposure visits were organized for more than 1,27,300 students from grades 6 to 12. These visits provided children with information about advanced teaching techniques.
