Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 23 50+ scores by completing his 24th ODI half-century against Australia in the first semi-final match of the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. Kohli has played eight ICC ODI events for India (4 ODI World Cups and 4 Champions Trophy) and in 54 matches, he has crossed the 50-run mark on 24 occasions.
With the help of this half-century, he became the first batsman to score 50+ seven times in the Champions Trophy. Kohli has 1 century and six half-centuries to his credit in the 17 Champions Trophy matches played so far.
Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly scored 50+ six times each in the Champions Trophy during their playing days. Before breaking Sachin’s all-time record, Kohli surpassed Dhawan’s 701 runs to become the highest run-scorer for the Indian team in the Champions Trophy.
With 61 runs, Virat Kohli also became the highest run-scorer in an ICC tournament. He became the first batsman in the world to do so. No one has been able to do this feat before him.
