The majestic Asiatic lions brought from Shakkarbagh Junagadh Gujarat on December 21, 2024 under the wildlife exchange scheme in Bhopal’s Van Vihar National Park were released from the quarantine enclosure on February 15 morning for display to tourists.
Director Van Vihar said that among the two Asiatic lions, one is male Juna and the other is female Gir. Both these lions were quarantined in the enclosure and were being continuously monitored. At present, both the lions are completely healthy.’
The lions, both approximately three-year-old, were brought from Shakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh of Gujarat, on Dec 21, 2024.
In exchange for the lion pair, Van Vihar National Park has sent a male tiger (Bandhavgarh-2) and a female tiger (Bandhani), both approximately six-year-old, to Sakkarbaug Zoo. The exchange was conducted under the Central Zoo Authority approved exchange programme.
On Dec 17, a nine-member team from Van Vihar National Park transported the tigers to Sakkarbaug Zoo. The team, which included the in-charge of tourism and an assistant wildlife veterinarian, returned with the lion pair. With the arrival of the new lions, Van Vihar National Park now houses two male and three female lions, including existing lions Satya, Ganga, and Nandi.
भोपाल के वन विहार राष्ट्रीय उद्यान में वन्यजीव विनिमय योजना के तहत 21 दिसंबर 2024 को शक्करबाग जूनागढ़ गुजरात से लाए गए राजसी एशियाई सिंहों को 15 फरवरी की सुबह पर्यटकों के प्रदर्शन के लिए क्वारंटीन बाड़े से छोड़ा गया।
वन विहार निदेशक ने बताया कि दो एशियाई सिंहों में एक नर जूना और दूसरी मादा गिर है। इन दोनों को बाड़े में क्वारंटीन किया गया था और लगातार निगरानी की जा रही थी। फिलहाल दोनों शेर पूरी तरह स्वस्थ हैं।’
लगभग तीन साल के दोनों सिंहों को 21 दिसंबर 2024 को गुजरात के जूनागढ़ के शक्करबाग चिड़ियाघर से लाया गया था।
सिंहों के जोड़े के बदले में वन विहार राष्ट्रीय उद्यान ने एक नर बाघ (बांधवगढ़-2) और एक मादा बाघ (बंधनी) को भेजा है, जो दोनों लगभग छह साल के हैं। यह आदान-प्रदान केंद्रीय चिड़ियाघर प्राधिकरण द्वारा अनुमोदित विनिमय कार्यक्रम के तहत किया गया।
17 दिसंबर को वन विहार राष्ट्रीय उद्यान से नौ सदस्यों की टीम बाघों को सक्करबाग चिड़ियाघर ले गई। टीम में पर्यटन प्रभारी और एक सहायक वन्यजीव पशु चिकित्सक शामिल थे, जो सिंह के जोड़े को लेकर वापस लौटी। नए सिंह के आने के साथ ही वन विहार राष्ट्रीय उद्यान में अब दो नर और तीन मादा सिंह हैं, जिनमें मौजूदा सिंह सत्या, गंगा और नंदी शामिल हैं।
