IND Vs Aus: As the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series between India and Australia approaches, a verbal clash has already erupted, setting a tense tone before the cricketing action even begins. Former Australian captain Tim Paine recently raised doubts about Gautam Gambhir’s coaching style and its suitability for the Indian team, suggesting that Gambhir’s approach could be detrimental if results don’t favor him early in the series.
Gambhir, who took over as head coach following India’s disappointing 0-3 defeat in the home series against New Zealand, now faces the formidable task of defending the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Paine said on ‘SEN Radio’, “In their last two series victories here in Australia, India’s coach was Ravi Shastri. He created a great atmosphere around the team, the players had energy, they played with passion. He showed them dreams and motivated them in a light-hearted and enjoyable way. Now India has a new coach who is quite short-tempered, although he is very competitive. Gambhir has his own way.”
Tim Paine expressed his concern and said that Gambhir’s coaching style is not suitable for India. Paine said that Gambhir is the first to get angry in the press conference when asked simple questions. If India does not have a good start in Perth, then the journey ahead may be difficult for Gautam Gambhir.
Paine’s reaction came after a recent media interaction in which Gambhir questioned Ricky Ponting‘s comment on Virat Kohli’s poor form and said that the Australian legend does not need to worry about Indian cricket. Ponting then called Gambhir a very irritable person.
