Bhopal: The artistic expression of art teachers for building environmental understanding and awareness is not only a creative innovation but also an important step toward making society more sensitive to environmental concerns.
These views were expressed by Sanjay Kumar Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Madhya Pradesh, on the occasion of the launch of the art teachers’ calendar “Green Impressions.” He described Green Impressions as a successful confluence of art and social consciousness and emphasized the need for continuity of such creative initiatives.
The annual calendar “Green Impressions,” published by the ArtDesign Teachers’ Forum, was formally launched recently in a dignified ceremony. The calendar focuses on a powerful artistic expression of environmental and civic concerns through art.
The Chief Guest of the programme was Sanjay Kumar Shukla. The Guests of Honour included Dr. Vidya Rakesh, Director, National Institute of Design (NID), Madhya Pradesh, and Mr. Akhil Sahai, Director, National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bhopal. The programme was chaired and welcomed by Manish Rajoria, Chairman, Career Group of Institutions.
At the beginning of the programme, Devilal Patidar shared his thoughts on the theme “New Directions in Art for Art Teachers and the Art–Design Teachers’ Forum,” highlighting the crucial role of art teachers.
This was followed by a presentation by Sunil Shukla, who introduced the concept of the Green Impressions workshop and calendar. He explained that the calendar is based on Raza-inspired artworks created during a three-day residential workshop held at Azim Premji University, Bhopal, where environmental crises were creatively expressed through plastic waste and discarded materials. Thirty-two art teachers from across Madhya Pradesh participated in this workshop.
Subsequently, the calendar was formally unveiled by the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour, and certificates were presented to selected art teachers. In their addresses, the Guests of Honour, Mr. Akhil Sahai and Dr. Vidya Rakesh, spoke about the interrelationship between art, design, and environmental consciousness.
It is noteworthy that the publication of the “Green Impressions” calendar was made possible with the support of the Raza Foundation, New Delhi, and Career Design School. The calendar brings together the creative vision of art teachers and their deep environmental concerns on a single platform.
