On the final day of the three-day residential workshop “Green Impressions: Art, Environment, and Expression” held at Azim Premji University, Bhopal campus, participants created artworks themed on earth, water, and forest using old clothes and fabric scraps in 10×10 inch squares. All these squares were stitched together to form a large quilt, which became a beautiful example of collective expression towards the environment.
Another unique activity was Blackout Poetry, where participants crafted new poems by selecting words from old newspapers — a powerful demonstration of both creativity and recycling.
A panel discussion was also held on PhD research topics by senior art educators, with participation from Sushma Srivastava, Sunita Verma, Suchita Raut, Premlata Sharma, Namrata Sharma, Sonali Chauhan, and Bhumika Singh. Veteran artist Devilal Patidar appreciated the participants’ work and also distributed certificates.
An exhibition of artworks created by the 32 participants of the workshop will be held on June 5, at 4 PM at Manjari Art Gallery, South TT Nagar. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Prof. Amitabh Pandey, Director of the Indira Gandhi National Museum of Mankind. Inspector General of Police Himani Khanna will be the Guest of Honour. The exhibition will remain open until 8 PM on June 6.
This special workshop was organized by the National Centre for Human Settlements and Environment (NCHSE), Child Rights Observatory Madhya Pradesh (CROMP), and the Art-Design Teachers’ Forum, with support from Azim Premji University. More than 30 art teachers from various districts of Madhya Pradesh participated. The aim of this initiative was to develop understanding, sensitivity, and a creative approach towards the environment through art.
