Bhopal: An important initiative has been taken by the Forest Department towards vulture conservation. To save and protect the endangered vulture species, 6 captive breeding vultures of Vulture Conservation and Breeding Center Kerwa Bhopal were released in the forest area of Halali Dam. Out of these, 2 white-backed vultures and 4 long-beaked vultures were released.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Wildlife Shubhranjan Sen said that Ornitrack-25 solar powered GPS-GSM trackers have been installed on all the released vultures. Through this, their movement pattern and habitat use is being monitored. Sen told that Director Tech for Conservation G. Arendran, World Wide Fund for Nature, India, made a significant contribution in installing Ornitrack-25 solar powered GPS-GSM trackers on the vultures.
Sen said that pamphlets have been distributed in the settlements around Halali Dam for the safety and awareness of the tagged vultures. The public has been urged to immediately inform the Forest Department if the vultures are injured or harmed in any way.
On the occasion of releasing the first group of vultures in their natural habitat in the forest area of Halali Dam, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) L. Krishnamurthy, Director Van Vihar National Park Meena Awadhesh Kumar Shiv Kumar, Assistant Director Van Vihar Sandesh Maheshwari, representatives of Bombay Natural History Society Mumbai, Deputy Director Dr. Sujit Narwade, Dr. Sarwan Singh Rathore, Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Samson, Vulture Conservation and Breeding Center Kerwa Bhopal Sanjay Parihar, representative of World Wide Fund for Nature India Mrs. Sangeeta Saxena, Ajay Mishra and officials of Raisen Forest Division were present.

वन विभाग द्वारा गिद्ध संरक्षण की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण पहल की गयी है। लुप्तप्राय गिद्ध प्रजातियों को बचाने और उनके संरक्षण के लिये गिद्ध संरक्षण एवं प्रजनन सेंटर केरवा भोपाल के 6 केप्टिव ब्रीडिंग गिद्धों को प्राकृतिक रहवास हलाली डेम के वन क्षेत्र में छोड़ा गया। इनमें 2 सफेद पीठ वाले गिद्ध एवं 4 लम्बी चोंच वाले गिद्धों को मुक्त किया गया।
प्रधान मुख्य वन संरक्षक वन्य-जीव श्री शुभरंजन सेन ने बताया कि मुक्त किये गये सभी गिद्धों पर ऑर्निट्रैक-25 सौर ऊर्जा चलित जीपीएस-जीएसएम ट्रैकर लगाये गये हैं। इसके माध्यम से उनके आवागमन के पैटर्न और आवास उपयोग की निगरानी की जा रही है।
श्री सेन ने बताया कि डायरेक्टर टेक फॉर कंजर्वेशन श्री जी. अरेन्द्रन, विश्व प्रकृति निधि भारत द्वारा गिद्धों को ऑर्निट्रैक-25 सौर ऊर्जा चलित जीपीएस-जीएसएम ट्रैकर लगाने में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया।
श्री सेन ने कहा कि हलाली डेम के आसपास की बस्तियों में टैग किये गये गिद्धों की सुरक्षा एवं जागरूकता के लिये पर्चे बाँटे गये हैं। इनमें आम लोगों से अपील की गयी है कि अगर गिद्ध घायल होते हैं या उन्हें कोई नुकसान पहुँचता है, तो वे तत्काल वन विभाग को सूचित करें।
गिद्धों के पहले समूह को प्राकृतिक रहवास हलाली डेम के वन क्षेत्र में छोड़ने के अवसर पर अपर प्रधान मुख्य वन संरक्षक वन्य-जीव श्री एल. कृष्णमूर्ति, संचालक वन विहार राष्ट्रीय उद्यान श्री मीना अवधेश कुमार शिव कुमार, सहायक संचालक वन विहार श्री संदेश माहेश्वरी, बाम्बे नेचुरल हिस्ट्री सोसायटी मुम्बई के प्रतिनिधि, उप संचालक डॉ. सुजीत नरवड़े, डॉ. सरवन सिंह राठौर, वरिष्ठ चिकित्सा अधिकारी, डॉ. सेमसन, गिद्ध संरक्षण एवं प्रजनन केन्द्र केरवा भोपाल श्री संजय परिहार, विश्व प्रकृति निधि भारत की प्रतिनिधि श्रीमती संगीता सक्सेना, श्री अजय मिश्रा और रायसेन वन मण्डल के अधिकारी उपस्थित थे।
