BJP leaders have lodged an FIR against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha in connection with the incidents of pushing and shoving that occurred in Parliament on Thursday.
On Thursday evening, BJP MPs Anurag Thakur, Bansuri Swaraj, and Hemang Joshi submitted the FIR at the Parliament Street Police Station.
Rahul Gandhi has been booked for allegedly physically assaulting BJP MPs during a scuffle in Parliament Complex, police officials said late on Thursday, adding that the charges filed against Rahul include assault and criminal intimidation.
Gandhi has been booked under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (endangering life), 131 (assault), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 3/5 (common intention) of the BNSS, the police said.
Police are likely to call Gandhi for questioning in connection with the case. Police will request the Lok Sabha Secretariat to provide the CCTV footage of the area where the alleged incident happened.
After filing the FIR, Anurag Thakur told the media, “We have also been in the opposition. We also used to protest but in a civilized manner. What the Congress has done raises questions on their thinking. Congress is also ashamed of what Rahul Gandhi has done but is not ready to apologize.”
Anurag Thakur said, “Rahul Gandhi is not even ashamed of his act. We have gone to the police station and lodged an FIR regarding his attack. We have told the police to investigate and take appropriate action.”
At the same time, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal has also given his reaction in view of the FIR lodged against Rahul Gandhi.
He wrote on the social media platform X, calling the FIR against Rahul Gandhi a politics of diversion, “It is an honour that a case has been lodged against Rahul Gandhi for protecting Baba Saheb’s legacy. Anyway, Rahul Gandhi is already facing 26 FIRs due to BJP’s political vendetta and this new FIR will not stop him or the Congress from standing up against the casteist RSS-BJP regime.”
The FIR against @RahulGandhi ji is nothing but a diversionary tactic in response to his staunch protest against the Home Minister.
A case against him for defending Babasaheb’s legacy is a badge of honour. And in any case, Rahul ji is already facing 26 FIRs due to the BJP’s political vendetta and this latest FIR will not stop him or the Congress from standing up against the casteist RSS-BJP regime.
At the same time, why has the Delhi Police not acted on the FIRs filed by women MPs of INC against the BJP leaders who physically assaulted them, Venugopal asked.
On Thursday, outside the Parliament, BJP MP Pratap Sarangi accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing him.
After which Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were admitted to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
In response to these allegations of BJP, Rahul Gandhi held a press conference with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday evening.
In his press conference, Rahul Gandhi said that BJP has done all this deliberately so that the Adani case can be suppressed.
