Team India coach Gautam Gambhir has said Ravichandran Ashwin will be missed after the latter announced his retirement. Ashwin made the announcement after the Test match against Australia in Brisbane ended in a draw.
Gautam Gambhir shared on the social media platform X, expressing, “We have been fortunate to witness a young bowler rise to become a legend in modern cricket. I am certain that future generations of bowlers will credit Ashwin as their inspiration for taking up the sport. You will be missed, brother!”
Indian cricket team’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has retired from international cricket. After the Test match against Australia in Brisbane ended in a draw, Ashwin said that this was his last day with the Indian cricket team.
After the match, Ashwin came to the press conference with captain Rohit Sharma and announced his retirement.
Ashwin said, “This is my last day as an Indian cricketer at the international level. I am retiring from all formats of international cricket. I believe that there is still something left in me as a cricketer, but now I will probably showcase it in club level cricket.”
Ashwin said, “I enjoyed the game a lot during my career. I have many wonderful memories. I remember the moments spent with Rohit Sharma and many teammates, there are also memories associated with them in the dressing room, who are no longer in the team.”
“I would like to thank the BCCI. Apart from this, there are many names. The most important among them are Rohit, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya, Pujara.. who took many good catches on my balls. This is a very emotional moment for me. Sorry.. I will not be able to take any of your questions on this occasion. Thank you very much to all of you.”
38-year-old Ashwin played 106 matches in his career and took 537 wickets. He took 10 wickets in a match 8 times.
Ashwin’s performance with the bat was also good. He scored six centuries and also scored 14 half-centuries.
