The Congress party has recently faced consecutive defeats in two states, resulting in repercussions within the Opposition. Many leaders raised concerns about Rahul Gandhi‘s leadership leading to discussions about the need for a new leader for the India Alliance.
Mamata Banerjee, dissatisfied with the outcomes of the Lok Sabha elections, is positioning herself as a candidate for the leadership of the India Alliance. Besides, both Shiv Sena Uddhav leader Sanjay Raut and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav have expressed their support for Banerjee in this potential role.
These statements from various leaders have ignited a political debate, but the Congress party has yet to respond to the situation.
However, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has shown a big heart to save the alliance and has given an important message to the Congress MPs. Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday told his party MPs to refrain from reacting to the statements of the leaders of the constituent parties of the ‘India’ alliance, because if there is any issue, the party leadership will look into it.
According to sources, in a meeting with the party’s Lok Sabha members, Rahul Gandhi also said that MPs should focus on raising issues related to public interest. He made this comment at a time when some leaders have issued statements regarding leadership within the opposition alliance ‘India’.
Sources said that Rahul Gandhi told the Congress Lok Sabha members not to comment on the statements of small and middle level leaders of the allies. Shiv Sena (Uddhav) leader Sanjay Raut on Tuesday indicated that his party is ready to discuss whether someone outside the Congress should lead the opposition alliance ‘India’. Earlier, some leaders of Trinamool Congress had also lobbied for giving the leadership of the opposition alliance to their leader Mamata Banerjee.
