UP Sambhal Shahi Masjid Survey Protest: In light of increasing tensions due to recent violence, authorities in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, have implemented a ban on the entry of outsiders, social organizations, and public representatives until December 1. This precautionary action is intended to help stabilize the situation following a violent incident that has heightened sensitivity in the area.
The unrest began on the morning of Sunday, November 24, when a survey team arrived at the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal for a scheduled assessment. During this survey, local residents reportedly began throwing stones at security forces, leading to a violent confrontation. The situation escalated as police came under attack, resulting in the tragic deaths of three protesters and injuries to over 15 policemen, some of which were severe.
Amid the chaos, police vehicles and nearby property were targeted. Attackers set fire to three cars and eight motorcycles, further escalating the violence. In response, the police used tear gas and plastic bullets in an effort to restore order.
Despite these efforts, violence persisted, with reports indicating that attackers opened fire on security personnel, injuring multiple officers, including CO Anuj Chaudhary and the Superintendent of Police’s Public Relations Officer, both of whom were shot in the leg. The condition of one constable remains critical.
