Priyanka Chopra’s cousin, Meera Chopra, shares her story of working in movies and what it’s like being part of the film industry.
Meera Chopra is the cousin of Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra. Meera shares that they come from a middle-class family, and back then, no one imagined they would enter the world of movies and glamour. When Priyanka found success in Bollywood, she opened doors for others in the family, making it easier for them to think about a career in acting. Meera feels that without Priyanka’s success, it might have been hard for a middle-class person to dream of being in films.
Meera Chopra has worked in many films, especially in South Indian cinema, but she didn’t feel as welcomed in Bollywood. In a podcast interview, she said that the Bollywood industry feels like a special club where people need connections to succeed. Meera didn’t have many connections when she started, and she believes this made things more difficult for her. Unlike what some people might think, Meera didn’t get everything easily just because she was Priyanka’s cousin.
Meera also talked about how Bollywood is filled with “star kids” . She doesn’t have a problem with star kids being in the industry, but she feels it’s unfair when they get roles without having much acting talent. Meera believes this makes it harder for talented newcomers to get a chance to show what they can do.
Meera began her acting career in 2005 with a Tamil movie called Anbe Aaruyire. After that, she worked in several South Indian films, including a Telugu movie called Bangaram. Later, she stepped into Bollywood with a film directed by Vikram Bhatt called 1920: London. Meera has appeared in other movies like Gang of Ghosts, Naastik, and Section 375. Even though her Bollywood career hasn’t been as big as her cousin’s, Meera has had a diverse acting journey in multiple languages.
