Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr. Mohan Yadav, has announced the state’s ambitious progress toward becoming a leader in solar energy. With the activation of the world-renowned Rewa Ultra Mega Solar project, Madhya Pradesh is positioning itself as a powerhouse in renewable energy. This project has attracted international attention, notably being recognized as a case study by Harvard University, one of America’s top academic institutions.
Alongside Rewa, a groundbreaking floating solar project, the largest in the world with a capacity of 600 MW, is under development on the Narmada River at Omkareshwar. Additionally, several other solar projects of varying sizes are underway across the state, marking a significant leap toward a solar energy revolution.
In a recent National Summit on Renewable Energy Investment held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, numerous industrialists expressed interest in setting up solar power plants in Madhya Pradesh. A major initiative is also planned for the state capital, Bhopal, where a campaign will encourage the installation of solar panels on government buildings and residential rooftops.
The Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Plant, located in Madhya Pradesh, has become a global exemplar of efficient management, operation, and solar energy production. Harvard University has included it in its curriculum as an ideal case study, underscoring its global importance.
Not only is the Rewa plant the largest of its kind, but it is also setting new benchmarks for cost-effectiveness, providing commercial electricity at the world’s lowest rate of Rs 3.30 per unit, locked in for the next 25 years. The project stands out as a shining example of how large-scale renewable energy projects can be both economically viable and environmentally sustainable.
