The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian Test cricket squad for the upcoming first Test match against Bangladesh. A notable inclusion is fast bowler Yash Dayal, who has the opportunity to demonstrate his skills at the highest level.
Dayal, a medium-fast bowler, earned his selection due to impressive performances in domestic cricket, despite facing stiff competition from established players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh. Should he play in the first Test, it will mark a significant milestone in Dayal’s career.
His journey in Indian cricket began with consistent performances in domestic competitions, where he has played 20 A-list matches and taken 32 wickets.
Yash Dayal first gained significant attention during the Indian Premier League (IPL) in April 2023, in a match between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders. In a crucial moment, Dayal was tasked with bowling the final over against a determined Rinku Singh, who hit five consecutive sixes, turning the game around and bringing Dayal into the spotlight, albeit for the wrong reasons.
Despite this setback, Dayal showcased resilience and focused on his domestic career. He rebounded strongly in the Ranji Trophy, taking seven wickets in four matches, and continued his form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with nine wickets in six matches. His consistent performances earned him a spot in the Duleep Trophy, where he played a key role in India’s B team’s victory over India A, taking four crucial wickets.
Dayal’s comeback journey reached a peak during a vital IPL match on May 18, 2024, between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, where he successfully bowled the final over, dismissing MS Dhoni and helping his team secure a place in the playoffs.
With his selection for the Indian Test team, Yash Dayal adds another significant chapter to his cricketing career. In addition to his domestic achievements, he has played 56 T20 matches, taking 53 wickets, and has represented the Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore in 28 IPL matches, claiming 28 wickets.
The Indian cricket team is set to play the first Test match against Bangladesh on September 19, marking the beginning of a two-Test series, with the second Test scheduled in Kanpur from September 27. Fans are eager to see if Yash Dayal will get a chance to showcase his skills in the upcoming matches.
