India’s athletes continue to make their mark at the Paris Paralympics 2024, with several stellar performances in track and field events and badminton. Among the standout moments, Nishad Kumar secured a silver medal in the Men’s High Jump T47 event, achieving his season’s best jump of 2.04 meters. This is Nishad’s second consecutive silver at the Paralympics, having also finished second in Tokyo three years ago.
Adding to India’s medal tally, Preethi Pal made history in the Women’s 200m T35 final by winning a bronze medal on Sunday. Preethi, who had already become the first Indian sprinter to win a medal at the Paralympics, clocked a time of 30.01 seconds to earn her second bronze at the ongoing Paris Games.
In badminton, Indian shuttlers have also ensured more medals for the country. Nitesh Kumar and Suhas Yathiraj have advanced to the finals in their respective categories, guaranteeing at least silver medals. Nitesh will compete in the Men’s SL3 final, while Suhas will vie for the title in the Men’s SL4 category. Meanwhile, Sukant Kadam, another Indian shuttler, will play for the bronze medal after a tough loss in the SL4 category semi-final to his compatriot Suhas.
India’s Paralympians are proving their prowess on the global stage, continuing to inspire with their dedication and achievements in Paris.
